When you are twelve

The phone call from school:

"Mo-ooo-oo-m," (high pitched, sobbing squeak), "Can you come get me-ee-eee?"

The situation in a nutshell:

Kate left the classroom to console her friend who had been maliciously teased.  ( She asked permission to leave from the student teacher.)

When she returned, the substitute teacher delivered sharp words to my girl for disrupting the class. 

The motherly advice:

"Sometimes, others  make bad decisions that affect you.  But part of this life experience is to learn to not let someone else's poor choices upset you.  Just let it roll off your back."

I remember my dad telling me the same thing twenty-something years ago, but his also included a duck and water analogy.

Then:

We went to lunch, which included delicious crepes for dessert.  We shopped, which included some new knees socks for the girl who was trying to do the right thing.

Scissors

The phone rang, mid-morning on Monday.  I picked it up and heard the voice of Weston's kindergarten teacher telling me that Weston had something to tell me. I heard my son whimpering in the background and refusing to get on the phone. 

Miss Bruce had to give me the Bad News:  Weston cut his hair, to the scalp, right down the center of his head.

the Good News:  clippers set up with a #1 blade and he's as good as new.

just before dinner on thursday-last

the driveway was dotted with bikes and scooters.

on the front lawn, a fierce game of freeze tag ensued.

dinner could wait a while.

I Love A Man in a Uniform

 

Well, make that a little man in a uniform.

  Weston was so excited to play t-ball this year.  He woke Keaton up on Saturday morning by saying, "Today is the BIG game!"

Keaton wanted to sleep in his uniform the night before...all except for his cleats.

Last week, my sister Shauna, sent me an apron divine.  As I started preparations for jam making on this morning I knew that the pink and red floral apron was the one I must be wearing while making the sweet spread.  It was a perfect match.  Thanks, sis!

I have a friend that I instantly bonded with the first time I met. I have a friend that took me under his wing, and showed me the ropes. I have a friend that helps me be a better person. I have a friend that I don't have to call every week to keep up with. I have a friend that I look up to, even though he is younger than me. I have a friend that even though we may not see each other for two years, it's like we've never been apart.

My friend is Wayne.

Last week Wayne was diagnosed with cancer. I was away on business, but happend to be in the city where he lives. I went to visit him in the hospital. It was just like old times... except my heart was breaking.

Before I left that day, I asked Wayne if we could pray together. As I prayed I asked Heavenly Father to bless his doctors, that they would guided.

As I walked out of the ICU, on the wall hung this picture.



As I looked at this picture I realized that I was looking at my prayer.
